Rebecca Bacon Beach Bag Elixir + Pre.Fixir

If my hair had a soul mate, Rebecca Bacon would be it. I've been through my fair share of stylists over the years (in NYC, San Francisco and LA) and I was rarely loyal because it was my job to review new salons. Everything changed a couple of years ago when I reviewed Rebecca Bacon at Piero Salon in Santa Monica. I'd like to say that I've been a one-stylist gal ever since... but unfortunately (for my hair), I did pick up a couple review assignments that led me astray. Yet, I've still always found my way back to Rebecca. I'm going to see her this week for a long-overdue cut and I'm literally counting down the minutes until my hair is finally back in her expert hands. Seriously, if I could have Rebecca as my stylist for the rest of my life, along with a supply of her Beach Bag Elixir and Pre.Fixir (two products that seem to have been made just for my hair), I'd have beautiful, healthy locks 24/7.

Verabella

If you are a SoCal resident, Verabella might not be news to you—the petite Beverly Hills salon is a longtime fave among celebs and spa fans. After an amazing facial treatment from Vera Kantor, I can now personally attest to the fabulousness of this hidden gem. And let me just say, I know how lucky I am to have been in the hands of Vera. But I digress. The Cherries and Yogurt facial (a new treament) was truly one of the best I've ever had. And being introduced to an incredibly luxe and eco-friendly product line that I could take home with me was icing on the cake. These products are so yummy! I've been using the Chamomilk Cleansing Lotion and Citrus Sorbet Moisturizer for nearly two months now (they were handpicked recommendations from Vera). And might I add that Kiss Zit Goodbye—"a tiny (and handy) roll-on that's loaded with powerful salicylic acid naturally derived from organic willow bark, tea tree oil, witch hazel and camphor, which are the most powerful chemical-free antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory ingredients available without a prescription"—is fantastic. I'm also sampling an amazing new Verabella concoction that will launch next spring—and even though I'm dying to spill the beans, I'll be good and wait. Stay tuned. 

Arcona Studio Santa Monica

With baby due to arrive in the coming weeks, I'm taking time to pamper myself and deal with all of my regular beauty maintenance (waxing, mani/pedi, etc.). A facial was a must on the list so I checked out Arcona Studio since it's in my 'hood (and only 5 mins from the hospital... just in case little dude decides to come a bit early). Located directly across the street from shopping haven Fred Segal in Santa Monica, Arcona is a beautiful spa offering an impressive menu of facial treatments that are customized to each client's specific skin care needs. For moi, a good cleanse was in order and obviously it was essential that the products were safe to use during pregnancy. The ARCONA European Cleanse uses "all natural enzymes and deep suction to remove impurities and relieve pore congestion." Though I typically LOVE having extractions to clear out all the yucky stuff in my pores, I found it relaxing and beneficial that my Arcona aesthetician did not squeeze or poke my skin. Bliss Spa Great Expectations

After all these years, Bliss spas still live up to their name. Despite the fact that baby boy had his afternoon kickboxing session in my belly during part of my prenatal massage, the Great Expectations treatment was truly amazing. The setup is supremely comfortable, which is not an easy task in a six-month pregnant state. The full-body rubdown was incredibly relaxing because my expert massage therapist knew exactly what I needed, paying special attention to my aching lower back and shoulders. I also love the specially blended aromatherapy oils, which are soothing and safe during pregnancy. As if the incredible body massage wasn't enough, they take the already blissful experience to a level of extreme bliss by ending the spa treat with a thorough foot rub and paraffin treatment. Pregnant or not, I highly recommend that you book an appointment at your local Bliss Spa for some much-needed pampering.

Bliss Los Angeles

There’s something fantastic about rediscovering an old favorite. When I lived in NYC, Bliss Soho was my top spot for pedicures, waxing and facials. But for the past few years my work as a beauty writer has kept me pampered (and spoiled) at various spas all over SF and LA. This afternoon I returned to Bliss LA, after over a year’s absence, and wave of relaxation came over me as soon as I checked in. I’ve always loved the bright, clean, modern decor and the products are amazing. My afternoon of indulgence began with a fab mani/pedi and I topped off my spa day with an incredible facial. Rebecca Bacon, Hair Stylist

Finding a good hair stylist can be hit or miss, even in a city overflowing with talent. As a beauty writer I’ve done countless salon and stylist reviews (my friends and family can attest to drastic hair color changes). I was perfectly happy bouncing from stylist to stylist, all in the name of bringing my readers the best of the best. But lately I’ve been turning down reviews because Rebecca Bacon has been cutting and coloring my hair to absolute perfection. Known for doing great layers and piece-y cuts, Rebecca’s talents are perfectly suited to my long, thick locks. Being a beauty writer affords me the luxury of experiencing the best spas. The Solstice Facial is definitely one of the best facials I’ve ever had. Sudi took great care of me and her soft voice and super-relaxing techniques left my face glowing and my mind and body at ease.
